What Do Your “Fat” Clothes Say About You?

Published on 08/01/10

Set Yourself Up to Win!

Are you sabotaging your weight release goals by keeping your “fat clothes”? This is a BIG mistake made by many. The Healthy Edge lifestyle is about empowerment. It’s about creating a lifestyle with results you can live with forever. If you are holding on to part of your wardrobe “just in case” you gain those 10, 20 or 30 pounds back then you are giving yourself permission to gain those pounds back.

Think of yourself like a fish in a fish tank. Many fish will grow in correlation to how big their environment (tank) is. This phenomenon is true with humans as well. Many people fluctuate in their weight within a very specific range. This range corresponds to the clothes they have in their closet. When they get to the top of their range, they make a decision to “diet” and “lose weight” and they proceed to descend down the scale and most of the time it’s by a short-lived, fad diet. This is vicious and dangerous cycle, not only physically but mentally as well.

The Healthy Edge is about creating a lifestyle that provides lifelong results. It’s about releasing weight and maintaining weight by focusing on day to day living…not calories, points, excessive exercise, surgeries or pills. This is HUGE! This is FREEDOM!

Part of this freedom is releasing the past. Letting go of where you have been and focusing on where you deserve and desire to be. The “fat” clothes in your closet have no place in your new lifestyle. They represent someone and something that you no longer are. You are in control. You choose your health. You choose your results. Let’s create an environment that supports you in this, not an environment that gives you permission to fail.

When you finally commit to a lifestyle of health, this step in your journey solidifies your intention. If you find yourself focusing on REASONS why you should NOT take this step such as “but these clothes cost so much money”…be aware that this is self-sabotage at its best. Be aware of this voice and create a new voice that says: I AM WORTHY and DESERVING of my best life. I am creating a new future for myself and I am healthy and lean. You can also get clothes altered or donate them to a charity where you will bless someone else while moving yourself forward at the same time.

I challenge all of you Healthy Edgers and all of you beginning your Healthy Edge journey to celebrate the day your pants are too baggy and your shirts begin to hang on you! Make a commitment to yourself that you will “clean house” every 1-2 months.

As you find your healthy weight range you can fill your closet with clothes that will last you a long time! You will build self-esteem as you go through the seasons and holidays without visiting the “fat closet”. Remember, you can only achieve what you believe is possible.

The Healthy Edge is about possibility and probability. Take your future on today with The Healthy Edge where we give you the tools to live the abundant life that is waiting for you!

This is so true! As someone who has released a significant amount of weight (70 lbs) it is so important to let go of clothes that don't fit! You can easily and cheaply get clothes that do fit from many sources. Start a clothing exchange in your Healthy Edge class. Try a low-cost store such as Ross, TJ Maxx, Marshall's, or Old Navy. A good consignment store can be a great place to shop for clothes that fit and also sell your clothes that don't fit! Don't let those larger sizes hang around in your closet! That won't move you forward in your health journey! Give them up and don't look back!
