GET RID OF THE SCALE! Are you Self-Sabotaging?

I hate the scale! I mean I HATE IT! I lived so much of my life waiting to see the number that I thought defined “thin”. It was actually an unrealistic number for me but it was a number that I had read about in magazines, a number that was realistic according to the height/weight chart at the doctors and it just sounded so good as it rolled off my tongue. The scale dictated how I ate, how much I exercised and how good or bad I felt about myself. The scale ruled my self-esteem.

What is it about the number? I think it has to do with the bombardment we get from diets we are accustomed to. Daily and weekly weigh-ins is how popular diet programs measure their success. It doesn’t matter if you are building muscle, losing inches, feeling better or sleeping better…the scale determines if you have failed or succeeded.

There is a better way. There is a more empowered way to measure your success. The Healthy Edge lifestyle is ANTI-SCALE. When you begin to pay attention to the other physical and emotional changes that this lifestyle brings, you will find them so much more rewarding than a stupid number on a scale.

For example, there are many men who experience incredible weight release. Men, unfortunately, have a tendency to release weight quicker than women. WITHOUT stepping on a scale, the belt starts to move notches, the belly begins to fade and the energy level soars. WHO CARES how much weight was released? This journey is just beginning and it’s just that, it’s a JOURNEY! There is no destination, just sit back and enjoy the benefits of healthy living!

For women, weight release can be slower, but we have seen women release up to 8-10 inches from their hips and waist just during The Healthy Edge 8 week program. Sometimes these huge changes may only manifest 5-8 pounds of weight loss which some women would quickly call a failure. As a woman, shrinking the size of my belly and hips outweigh the importance of any amount of weight I release.

I see people enjoying the incredible changes The Healthy Edge lifestyle brings such as baggy pants, increased energy, better sleep, relief from headaches and a feeling of control. It breaks my heart when, in a split second, all of those achievements are shadowed because they don’t see the number on the scale that matches their expectations. They quickly revert to disappointment and they may even sabotage their progress because they feel it’s “not working” for them. Not working?

Your health is not a number on the scale. Your self-esteem is not a number on the scale. We know when we feel and look good. We don’t need a scale to tell us that. We get feedback from the people around us about how great we look or how our skin is glowing…we don’t need a scale for that.

Give your body more value than a number on the scale. You will feel tempted! The time you will feel most tempted is when you ARE feeling really great. You are feeling the changes in your clothes and you SWEAR that the number on the scale will reflect how great you feel and look. DON’T DO IT!!!! Do not step on that scale and allow any opportunity to steal how great you feel. If this is TRULY a lifestyle and you are TRULY committed to it then the number doesn’t truly matter!
